Cliff whiting is a master carver and printmaker born and raised in Te Kaha. Cliff whiting is well known for his vibrant and colorful pieces. combining new techniques with traditional subjects.

Originally i was wanting to incorporate whakairo into the frame of my art piece taking the inspiration of Cliff Whiting's vibrant works. However, due to the lack of time and waiting for the appropriate materials from sources. I had to change the idea and use kowhaiwhai instead to the frame. Now that I have completed my work I am glad that I used kowhaiwhai to the frame instead of woodcarving as it'll take the eye away from what really matters in my piece.
